Since 1989, the Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability (ALACD) has served to encourage people with disabilities to make physical activity a regular part of their lives and help build the capacity of communities and organizations to make this possible
For 35 years, the Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability (ALACD) has worked alongside our partners to help build communities across Canada that are more inclusive for people with disabilities to be physically active.
Over the past year, we have begun efforts to rejuvenate and re-energize the organization, including the development of a new five-year strategic plan, and a proposed name change and rebrand. We are continuing to challenge our current ways of operating that are innovative and creative. We are excited about the future and hope you will join us on this journey!
Join the Board!
We are looking to add three energetic folks to our board at this crucial time of rebuilding and reenergizing the organization. If you, or someone you know, has a passion for working to remove barriers to physical activity and recreation for people with disabilities, we would love to work with you. At this time, we are looking for board members who have skills in the following areas of:
- Financial literacy (accounting, budgeting)
- Risk management
- Revenue generation (fundraising, sponsorship)
- Government/public policy; and
- Communications.
Individuals nominated to the Board of Directors should have a strong background in and commitment to the area of physical activity, recreation and sport for persons with a disability. The Board strives to have diverse representation that reflects all members of society and are committed to ensuring our board, collectively, has:
- Organizational perspective of local, provincial and national levels
- Disability representation
- Geographic representation
- Diverse representation
- Gender balance
- Anglophone/Francophone representation.
The ALACD Board is committed to reflecting a variety of perspectives and lived experience. We want to ensure that we have representation from across Canada, so this year, our focus is on adding Board members who represent the provinces of Quebec, Ontario and the territories, as well as those from Atlantic Canada (particularly from PEI, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador). Given our mandate, we encourage people with lived experience to apply.
Time Commitment
- Terms are either two or three years. Board members can serve up to two consecutive three-year terms.
