Moji Akande

Moji is thrilled to join the ALACD as a Communication Manager and bring her extensive background in strategic communication and policy development to the organization. Moji’s connection with inclusive recreation and sports advocacy is reflected in her work, and her time spent volunteering and coordinating projects across diverse communities.

Moji holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Economics and Finance from Lancaster University, UK, and a Master of Science in Finance from Queen Mary University of London. Her professional journey spans several years in strategic planning, business development, and operational transformation, with a strong focus on promoting equitable access to recreation. Since moving to Canada in 2019, Moji has worked primarily within Parks and Recreation to support operational efficiency and advocate for more inclusive, accessible recreational opportunities.

As a former athlete, policy advisor, and volunteer, Moji has an understanding of the challenges that marginalized communities face in accessing sports and recreational activities. She leverages her experience to contribute to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility initiatives, conducting training, providing research-based recommendations, and enhancing public awareness to lower participation barriers.

Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, watching tv (she recently discovered a love for K-drama), organizing experiential trips for Black Canadians, and attending music concerts/live gigs. She hosts a monthly book club called “Chapters & Chow” where her love for reading and food conveniently converge.

Moji is passionate about creating spaces that welcome everyone—including those often overlooked—and she’s excited to help further ALACD’s mission of supporting active living for Canadians with disabilities.
